A splendid example of a heavily-timbered 17th-century coaching inn, built (or possibly rebuilt) after Bridgnorth’s Great Fire in 1646. In the summer you can make the most of the weather in the small courtyard, while in the winter the three fires keep things cosy. Have a pint of Hobsons Town Crier or Twisted Spire while you peruse the menu, and chose from a good selection of modern British dishes, maybe starting with a black pudding Scotch egg with crisp smoked bacon and home-made brown sauce, followed by half a roast Aylesbury duck, served on or off the bone; or smoked hake with a cheddar and mustard crust, crisp fried poached egg and mashed potato.
