Just six miles from Rutland Water nature reserve and a short drive from Stamford and Nottingham, The Black Bull occupies a lovely spot in the picturesque village of Market Overton. Once a coach house, the thatched pub offers a traditional atmosphere with real fires and sumptuous sofas, although walking boots, children and dogs are as welcome as diners. Local produce fills the frequently changing menu here, including steaks from a nearby farm and lamb from Launde Abbey. Sample dishes include fresh crab cakes, dill, white wine and cream sauce; and trio of pork sausages, mash and rich onion pan gravy.
