All you'd expect from a thriving village local, from pub games in the fire-warmed bar to real ales from respected Welsh microbreweries such as Rhymney and The Celt Experience. Originating as a drovers' stopover some 300 years ago and reputedly haunted, this pub is located in superb walking countryside. The varied menu combines the best of Welsh ingredients with influences from Europe and further afield. Start with five spice pulled pork, hoi sin sauce and Chinese pancakes; or button mushroom escabeche with roasted red peppers; follow that with Welsh shoulder of lamb, pot-roasted with Moroccan spices, honey and ginger and couscous; or Bengali fish stew.
