With a long history dating back to the 14th century, an interior with character is only to be expected. The Mermaid certainly does not disappoint. Part of the building once housed a bakery, and today the baker’s fireplace still radiates a warmth to match the welcome extended to guests, their children and dogs. Add in the crooked beams, flagstone floors, a candle-lit first-floor restaurant, a choice of four real ales and home-cooked food, and it’s no wonder the pub is popular with townspeople and visitors alike. Fresh fish dishes and home-made pies are a speciality, and vegetarian and gluten-free menus are available.
