The Five Alls, in picture-postcard Filkins, is very successfully run by Sebastian and Lana Snow. The pub’s interior oozes warmth and style, with rugs on stone floors, flickering candles on old dining tables, and a leather chesterfield fronting the log fire – the perfect spot to relax with a pint and the papers. The bar bustles with locals, walkers and cyclists supping pints of Brakspear Oxford Gold or Wychwood Hobgoblin and tucking into proper bar snacks (devilled kidneys or a plate of Serrano ham perhaps), while the concise modern British menu bristles with quality, locally sourced ingredients, draws diners from far and wide across the Cotswolds. Typically, you’ll find roast rare beef salad; potted shrimps; and eggs Benedict, florentine or royale as a starter, then for the main event, confit duck leg, braised red cabbage, watercress and rösti potato; blackened cod with bok choy, glass noodles, ginger, chilli and scallions; or tagliata of beef with roasties, wild mushrooms and parmesan shavings.
