If log fires in an inglenook, old village photos on the walls of a traditional rustic bar, and a beamed dining room sound like your type of pub, then look no further. Similarly, if you'd enjoy a pint of Hook Norton Hooky Bitter, or a glass of Pinot Grigio on a cottage garden terrace overlooking thatched, honey-coloured stone cottages, Tony and Caroline Warburton's 17th-century inn will tick even more boxes. The couple have a well-earned reputation for food, based partly on Tony’s speciality, fish, although steak pie is also given top billing. In the slate-floored conservatory, the compact menu might offer fettuccine with mushrooms, rocket, pesto and cream; and roast belly of Cotswold pork, with apple sauce, crackling and cider gravy. Among the day's specials might be breaded John Dory fillets with chips and mushy peas; or winter vegetable, sweet potato, bean and spinach curry with rice.
