Next to the green in a Chilterns’ hamlet, you approach this 17th-century pub through the garden. Inside, you’ll find richly coloured walls, low-beamed ceilings and open fires. Chalkboards tell you which guest ales are accompanying Brakspear Bitter, or Westons Wyld Wood Organic, the incumbent cider. The three-section restaurant is a cosy place to dine on steak and Guinness puff pastry pie; slow-cooked belly of pork with black pudding mash, crackling and cider jus; Thai style beef, chilli, vegetable and coriander stir-fry; or traditional fish and chips.
