Occupying the site of a former hospital, this eponymously named pub continues the caring tradition – with hospitality. In-patients have been known to make a speedy recovery while relaxing by the real fires, and enjoying the pub’s cosy corners and colourful spaces. Four real ales, including an ale brewed especially by Rigg and Furrow Brewery, 10 wines by the glass, and a vast range of whiskies are dispensed at the huge oak bar. All-day sustenance ranges from good old-fashioned bar snacks such as pork quavers with mustard dip and Welsh rarebit to steak and ale pie with mash and seasonal veg.
