The Great Western Railway company disappeared in 1948, but its name lives on in this foliage-covered inn between the line it built to Birmingham, and the Oxford Canal. It’s a Hook Norton pub, so the brewery’s range of ales is well represented; 10 wines are sold by the glass, and there’s a packed whisky and spirit shelf. Good things on chef-patron René Klein’s menus include his creamy chicken curry; venison, pheasant, cranberry and port pie; Cajun-dusted salmon fillet; and leek and cheese sausages. There is a pretty courtyard and garden.
