This elegant, 18th-century coaching inn starred as the fictional Drover's Arms, vet James Herriot's favourite watering hole, in the BBC drama All Creatures Great and Small. Photographs of cast members can be seen in the oak-panelled bar with its big inglenook fireplace. Top quality produce includes game from the surrounding moors, and fish fresh from Hartlepool. Look out for loin of local lamb; pan-fried salmon; or wild mushroom risotto.
