This 200-year-old pub lies in the heart of Wensleydale, known for its castles, abbeys and waterfalls. Located next to an 18-hole golf course and at the entrance to Akebar Holiday Park, The Friar’s Head overlooks beautiful countryside and has grounds where you can play bowls or croquet. Inside you’ll find exposed beams and stonework, and hand-pulled Yorkshire ales at the bar. There are lush plants and vines in the Cloister conservatory dining room and in the evening it looks magical in the candlelit. From the frequently changing menu, typical dishes include tapas choices; fajita wrap; twice baked soufflé flavoured with smoked Wensleydale and spinach; lamb meatballs in pitta bread with olives; or local Swaledale sausages served with buttered mash and onion gravy.
