Successfully run by local boys the Hardisty brothers, this friendly free house has an inviting atmosphere. Keen to include locally sourced, season produce on his menus, the chef offers the likes of Doreen’s black pudding fritters with home-made apple and cider sauce; Scotch quail’s egg Niçoise; venison saltimbocca; and Hodgson’s of Hartlepool beer-battered haddock with home-made chubby chips, ‘proper’ mushy peas and tartare sauce.
