The pub stands on the former RAF Clifton airfield, where Westland Lysander aircraft were based until 1942. The long, fully air-conditioned bar incorporates a pool table, dartboard and large-screen TVs. Restaurant meals range from pan-seared pigeon breast with pickled brambles, spiced ginger waffle and pear purée; and blackened Cajun king prawns with coriander mayo and cherry tomato salad, to chargrilled gammon steak with fresh pineapple, beer-battered onion rings and hand-cut chips; and prime steak pie with button mushrooms, buttered carrots and redcurrant jus. A beer and cider festival takes place over the Early May Bank Holiday weekend.
