York's smallest pub, although its vivid red-brick frontage gives its presence away. Serving customers since 1798, it was last refurbished in 1903, thus warranting a Grade ll* listing for its hardly-touched interior. The taproom at the front is connected by a long corridor to the snug at the back, with the ales expertly handled by the landlord, a master cellarman. Groups are not permitted.
