Well-loved pub on the southern fringe of the North York Moors

Bar menu
Open all year

With a cottage garden and decked outdoor seating area, this stone-built, 17th-century free house has a wonderful atmosphere. In the small front bar pewter mugs and beer pump clips hang from the low beams, and copper cooking pans decorate the open range. A snug and two delightful dining rooms make up the rest of the interior. Home-cooked dishes prepared from local supplies include roast topside of Yorkshire beef with Yorkshire pudding; home-made pies including lamb and mint pie, steak and ale; or alternatively choose from the daily specials board. Enjoy the food with Theakston Best Bitter or a guest ale. St Mary’s Church, opposite the pub, is renowned for its Saxon crypt.
