In a central, but nevertheless quiet location, this place, in attractive grounds, is one of the town’s favoured eating and drinking places. Top-notch East Anglian ales and traditional snacks are served in the bar, and there’s a separate restaurant menu typically featuring Norfolk sausages with creamy mash and red onion gravy; pan-fried fillet of sea bass with herbed sauté potatoes; sweet chilli beef with noodles; and vegetable Kiev with garlic butter sauce. Daily specials, like everything else, are home cooked from fresh local produce. Events include regular live music, murder mystery dinners and a July beer festival. Lunch is only by arrangement for parties of 12 or more.
