Focal point of the village, the 18th-century ‘Jolly’ is the brewery tap for the Brancaster microbrewery, both being run by father and son team, Cliff and James Nye. In the Harbour Snug you can look out over the water, read local books, and play darts and board games. The Nyes’ Brancaster ales aren’t obligatory – you’ll also find Adnams and Woodforde’s, 12 wines by the glass, a selection of cocktails and 30 rums. Pub food is typified by open-fired pizzas (make-your-own, eat in or take away), plus from the blackboard and the smokehouse choices: smokehouse brisket chilli con carne; steak and ale pie; half a pint of Jolly smoked prawns; and fish, chips, peas and home-made tartare sauce. The beach-themed ice cream hut in the garden is an attraction in the summer. A beer and music festival is held in June.
