Run by a husband and wife team, this 18th-century, whitewashed and pantile-roofed pub belongs to the local Stody Estate, famed for its rhododendron and azalea gardens. The front patio overlooks the large village green and there's a spacious garden at the rear; or stay in the wooden-floored bar, where well-behaved dogs can become buddies with Sheamus, the pub's half Irish Wolfhound, half German Shepherd cross. The two menus – Seasonal and Favourites – make good use of Norfolk's seafood, such as the warm fillet of Cley-smoked mackerel starter with apple and fennel remoulade. Among the mains are chargrilled lemon and thyme chicken, sautéed potatoes and wild garlic dressing; chargrilled Aberdeen Angus sirloin steak, jenga chips, garlic aïoli, slow-roast tomato, field mushroom and salad; and red onion and mozzarella tart, mixed leaf salad and aged balsamic.
