Close to an ancient Roman burial ground (believed by some to be the location of King Arthur’s Camelot), this 17th-century coaching inn has stood on the banks of the River Usk for more than 400 years. Local produce appears on the menus in dishes like lamb rump and mini shepherd’s pie; slow-cooked belly pork with a sage and onion sausage farcie; or beer-battered halloumi with a courgette salad, rice and tandoori sauce. There’s a full veggie menu and the pub is well known for its range of local ciders and perrys. It holds annual real ale and cider festivals with barbecues.
