Close to an ancient Roman burial ground (believed by some to be the location of King Arthur’s Camelot), this 17th-century coaching inn has stood on the banks of the River Usk for more than 400 years. Local produce drives the menu, which might include duck leg confit with orange and thyme polenta cake, beansprout salad and duck jus; or honey and soy belly pork with roasted onion bread and butter pudding and parsnip purée. The pub is particularly well known for its range of local ciders and perrys. It holds annual real ale and cider festivals with barbecues.
