Family-run free house with fine views

At a glance

Bar menu
Open all year

A charming family-run free house dating from the 16th century, The Crown has fine views of Skirrid (in Welsh, Ysgyrid Fawr) known also as Holy Mountain. Walkers and cyclists love it, but it’s a genuine community pub too, serving Bass, Rhymney, Wye Valley HPA and guest real ales as well as Mortimers Orchard cider. A typical lunch menu starts with garlic mushrooms on crostini, chef's pate with chutney on toast, or chicken caesar salad; move along to venison sausages and mash, steak and ale pie, or goat's cheese tart. Expect Baileys and white chocolate cheesecake or sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce to finish.
