19th-century character pub in quiet area

At a glance

Bar menu
Open all year

The Scarsdale is a 19th-century free-standing building with colourful hanging baskets and window boxes spilling into the small terraced patio, in a leafy road just off Kensington High Street. The Frenchman who developed the site was supposedly one of Bonaparte’s secret agents, but more recently – the 1970s and 80s – The Scarsdale played a role as the local watering hole for Bodie and Doyle, in ITV's The Professionals. A typical restaurant menu offers slow-roasted shoulder of lamb with flageolet beans, red wine, rosemary sauce, mash and veg; chargrilled chicken ciabatta sandwich with spinach, bacon, avocado and chips; or fish pie with leek and cheesy mash. There is also an equally tempting bar menu, and an impressive wine list.
