Named after a local writer who lived in Islington in the 1830s, this is a cracking neighbourhood pub. Locals beat a path to the door for microbrewery ales and the hearty, home-cooked comfort food listed on the daily chalkboard menu. Traditional British and French dishes are the order of the day, perhaps ̱̱steak anglaise; or truffle mushroom Wellington, buttered Jersey Royals and kale. Sunday roasts are very popular.
