This pantile-roofed inn looks across the green to the village church with its leaning tower. Picnic settles around the pub entrance encourage resting for a while to contemplate this timeless view with a pint in hand – Abbot Ale, Timothy Taylor Landlord and guest ales are all on hand pump inside. The inn’s age is uncertain, but the pre-Jurassic era stones used to build it are around 200-million-years old. Its ancient beams are warmed in winter by a roaring log-burner. Seasonal plates of classic pub food may embrace home-made game pie with hand-cut chips and mushy peas; or pan-roasted hake fillet with lemon and thyme linguine. A change of hands.
