An imposing 19th-century stone-built country inn in the centre of a lovely village. It’s run by brother and sister Peter and Sarah Turner, who have built a reputation for warm hospitality and good home cooking. Flower-decorated tables on wood-boarded floors, old pews and an open fire characterise the rustic yet contemporary ambience. Local Oakham and Grainstore Breweries furnish two of the ales, and a good wine selection includes bubbly served by the glass. Sit with a menu in the bar, the restaurant or the intimate library, and choose from starters such as battered tiger prawns, and mains like roasted lamb fillet.
