Once frequented by quarrymen (when it was called the Slate Splitters Arms), this 18th-century stone inn is located on the edge of Woodhouse Eaves village, close to the Great Central steam railway. Local produce drives the menu here, from the signature Woodhouse smokies and ploughman’s to the homemade ‘gourmet’ burgers, grilled steaks and vegan-friendly three bean vegetable chilli. When the weather allows, take your pint of locally brewed Charnwood Vixen ale into the flowery courtyard garden. A carefully curated list of wines includes 15 offered by the glass.
