Everything here seems carefully considered, and nothing is without some special quality. Handy for city-centre attractions, and not far from the city’s rugby ground, the pub is worth seeking out for a craft ale such as Everards, a glass of wine from the 20 on offer, or a carefully prepared cocktail. Attention to detail is evident too in the food. Ethically sourced ingredients feature in flavoursome dishes such as goats' cheese and beetroot salad with couscous; honey and mustard chargrilled lamb; and Rutland fried chicken with 'proper' mash and creamed corn. Hand-stretched and stone-cooked flatbreads are a speciality: meatball, mozzarella, field mushroom, white sauce and rocket makes a winning combination. Pub tapas is also a treat.
