This stone-built country inn stands at the fringe of Bolton's remarkable lakeland; a string of reservoirs wrapped around the foot of the West Pennine Moors. No surprises, then, that the peaceful beer garden is a target for ramblers slaking their thirst with beers from the local Blackedge Brewery. It’s a popular destination dining pub, with hearty British dishes to the fore – lamb hotpot with braised red cabbage; or roast partridge, little pie of the leg, roast roots and damson sauce. Log fires warm the light interior of this rural retreat; while Good Friday sees a beer and cider festival here.
