Contemporary look for centuries-old village pub

Mitton is small – a few houses, the church and this 400-year-old pub, flagship of Ribble Valley Inns. It takes its name from the 'three fishes pendant' on the coat of arms of the last abbot of Whalley Abbey a few miles away. The removal of internal walls has created a long contemporary space, with padded seating at well-spaced tables and a bar with tall chairs, while at one end is an open fire, at the other, a sofa and armchairs. The menu features steaks, Lancashire hotpot, fish and chips, and cheese and onion pie, with Sicilian stew of red mullet, mussels, cod and baby squid an alternative to such traditional pub favourites. Roasts on Sundays and no corkage charge on your own wine on Mondays.
