The Ribble Valley and the Forest of Bowland are hardly short of high-quality pubs and restaurants. The Red Pump’s USP is its lack of pretentiousness – it aims to keep things simple and serve ‘seriously good’ food. Beef is the speciality here – dry-aged for about 40 days, the meat originates from Longhorn, Shorthorn and Galloway cattle carefully reared on grass. Lamb, pork and chicken are also simply cooked, while fish-lovers will find pan-fried sea bass; fish and chips; or a salad of home-cured salmon and Atlantic prawn an ideal choice. Three cask ales in the Snug include Bowland and Moorhouses brews.
