The brooding, whaleback shape of Pendle Hill looms up behind this imposing, stone-built inn. They specialise in home-made Lancashire pub favourites here, such as steak and ale pies; pesto-grilled cod fillet with creamy mash; and wild mushroom linguine in white wine cream. Don't miss lamb from the owner's Barley House Farm 100 yards away. Equally, thoughts might turn to honey-glazed duck breast; spicy peri peri chicken; or Cumberland sausages and mash. Burnley's Moorhouse brewery and local micros supply some of the bar's six cask ales, while all the wines are available by the glass.
