Although very much Lancastrian, this traditional country inn is only minutes away from the Cumbria border. With its nooks and crannies, old beams and uneven floors, this family-run dog-friendly inn stands next to Tewitfield Locks on the Lancaster Canal. The bar, with local ales on tap, also includes a wide range of spirits and wines. Otherwise look to the restaurant for good country cooking and local produce; stone-baked pizzas to 28 day-aged steaks, cured in-house and cooked on a chargrill; plus brasserie inspired dishes. Children are most welcome.
