This clapboard and stone-fronted pub is run by former Fleetwood fish wholesaler Chris Neve, who comes from a long line of North Sea and Irish Sea trawlermen. His daughter Joycelyn studied the coastal food industry in South America before becoming head of operations here, and the third lynch-pin is executive chef Antony Shirley, formerly head chef at Raffles in the West Indies. This Blackburn-fringe pub may look more New England than Lancashire mill-town but the menu gets its inspiration from all over the world. You might try fish starters such as crab sausage roll; or salt and pepper squid, while main courses include Malaysian seafood curry. Alternatively, there’s baby back ribs with orange, rosemary and chilli; crispy duck legs with dauphinoise potatoes and bourguignon sauce. The Monday to Saturday lunch club dishes include a barbecued pulled pork bun; and spicy chicken salad.
