Mother and son team Tracey and Daniel Ray took over the Woolpack in 2015. It’s named after the wool smugglers of yesteryear, and its old-fashioned appeal has been left largely intact. A perfect stop for ramblers then, with or without children and dogs. There’s nothing passé about the quality of the Shepherd Neame ales at the bar, and the copious menu reflects today’s popular tastes: home-made lasagne; burgers; various fish with chips and salad; locally-sourced steaks are carefully cooked to order. Sit out in one of the two large beer gardens in summer, where food can be served at your chosen picnic bench.
