Popular free house in the Garden of England

At a glance

Bar menu
Open all year

Britain's only Kentish Horse honours Invicta, the county's prancing white stallion. Popular with ramblers and cyclists, the locals rate it too, partly because Chiddingstone-brewed Larkins and Lewes-brewed Harvey's are available, with guest ales on high days and holidays. Home-cooked, traditional food is served, such as pan-fried lamb’s liver and onions; beer-battered fresh fillet of haddock; and tagliatelle with Stilton and mushroom cream sauce. The four-acre grounds include an extensive garden and a children's play area, and you also get a terrific view over Winnie the Pooh's home, Ashdown Forest.
