Alex and Steph, who now run this 300-year-old free house, abide by two time-honoured principles – to provide decent real ales (which they do) and well-prepared food. Take, for example, old favourites like liver and bacon, and home-made pies, or specials such as pan-fried scallops and black pudding, with pork belly in cider jus to follow. Dogs are welcome in the large beer garden, which incorporates a children's play area. Events include quiz, poker and live music nights.
