Environmental responsibility is important to the owners of this old village inn which trims the North Downs. Locally sourced wood supplies 25% of the energy here, whilst most of the food and drink is traceable locally. Thus the beers travel the few miles from Goacher's Maidstone brewery, ciders are from Biddenden, meats arrive from Kent's Romney Marsh or the Alkham Valley, and fish from the Dungeness Fish Hut. Tempting in ramblers from the popular walking country hereabouts may be fish finger club sandwiches; wood-oven-roasted pork ribs (for two); chargrilled beef steaks; and sticky date pudding with butterscotch sauce. The on-site deli and shop is a trove of all things comestible and Kentish.
