Quintessential Kentish pub in village setting

New owners here have preserved all aspects of the pub’s authenticity while introducing new menus for both drink and food. Famed as it is for hops, the Garden of England hosts some fine microbreweries and you can sample three of them – Tonbridge, Wantsum and Romney Marsh – at the Duke’s bar; also on tap is cider from the Kent Cider Company. The focus on ‘local’ applies equally to the ingredients for the kitchen’s new menus. A typical three-course choice could be potted Dungeness shrimps with toasted sourdough; Romney Marsh lamb neck curry; and a selection of Kent Simply ice creams.
