A little way inland from Cowes, this 300-year-old alehouse is now in new hands. The appeal is to all-comers – from walkers and cyclists to locals and tourists, especially families. In addition to Island Wight Gold ale on hand pump there’s a great selection of real ciders and a beer festival in October too. Classic home-made pub dishes are the mainstays of the menu, with local sourcing and seasonal availability playing their part. Expect the likes of salt and pepper squid; half a pint of shell-on prawns; pie or pudding of the day with creamy mash; home-made Italian meatballs; and sweet potato, Puy lentil and spinach goulash.
