A few years ago this derelict mid-terrace pub was bought by locals Leigh and Mari Faulkner who then restored it using slate and reclaimed oak, and filled it with auction-bought furniture. Even an old water trough found a new home. Today it has a snug, a patio, a bar with Welsh guest ales, an award-winning dining room with views of Snowdonia and AA-rated accommodation. They endeavour to source local produce and much is purchased directly from nearby farmers. One of the starters (i ddechrau) could be beetroot and Y Cwt Caws peli pabo goats’ cheese arancini, while mains (prif gwrs) include salmon and cod paupiette, crushed dill potatoes, Menai mussels and prawn broth; and Raymond the butcher’s burger, brioche bun, bacon, BBQ sauce and grilled cheddar.
