Billed as a country pub and eating house, the Bushel & Strike was built in 1854 as a brewery for this picturesque village. The provenance of the pub’s name is difficult to identify, but it enjoys a growing reputation for well-kept Charles Wells beers, a genuine warm welcome, and chef/landlord Martin Nisbet’s excellent food; Martin’s partner Lucy, a local girl, also brought a wealth of experience from the hospitality industry when they took over the pub in 2014. Set lunch menus from Tuesday to Friday present the likes of cream of Jerusalem artichoke soup; grilled bavette steak with seasonal vegetables and chips; and home-made ice creams and sorbets.
