Tranquil rural pub serving enjoyable local food

Open all year

Handy for both Hereford and Hay-on-Wye, the 17th-century Red Lion is tucked away in the sleepy hamlet of Bredwardine, set against a backdrop of fields and cider orchards. Once a coaching inn, the lounge was used as the courtroom for the circuit judge, although these days the only judgement being passed is on the well-kept Butty Bach beer and Gwatkin cider, and the highly-regarded food. A starter of lime and garlic marinated pigeon breast with spinach, tomato and coriander salsa might precede lamb, beetroot and black pudding casserole.
