Very dog-friendly pub on edge of New Forest National Park

At a glance

Bar menu
Open all year

What is now the Pilgrim was originally three 18th-century cottages, but although considerably expanded, altered and refurbished since, its thatched roof, exposed beams, stone walls and log fire still create an inviting look and homely feel. Fuller's previous manager has moved on, but another first-class boss has taken over, so you can still expect the same professional approach. The family-friendly menu of classic pub favourites and modern dishes typically offers steak and London Pride ale pie; roasted rump of Hampshire lamb; lemon and thyme roast chicken; and roasted butternut squash. Among the desserts are pear frangipane tart; and spiced apple and macadamia nut crumble. They are very dog-friendly here too.
