In the charming village of Chawton, this tile-hung 16th-century pub stands across the road from Jane Austen’s House Museum. It’s friendly and welcoming, with a sunny, south-facing garden. Fuller's-owned, The Greyfriar offers London Pride and HSB along with a great seasonal menu. You might begin with chicken liver parfait and sourdough toast, or sautéed squid, and follow that with crispy pork belly, black pudding, and carrot and apple purée; or grilled halloumi and vegetable stack. Finish with orange brioche bread and butter pudding, or the crème brûlée of the day.
