With its retro-furnished bar, Jayne Gillin's Green Man is one of her five city bars and restaurants, all showing her enviable talent for trendy makeovers. Upstairs is an Edwardian-style dining room with rich fabrics, candelabras and chandeliers, while The Outhouse, formerly the skittle alley, is now a cool, 1930s industrial-style function room, where platter suppers, pitchers of wine and buckets of beer are served at a huge refectory table. The evening menu offers dishes such as the Green Man burger with seasoned fries; cod fillet, mussel and saffron velouté; porchetta and sautéed greens; or fish and chips, mushy peas, tartare sauce and pickles.
