Its high-ceilinged Victorian proportions translate into light and airy spaces for drinkers and diners, and comfort too, with log-burning fireplaces at each end of the bar. Purpose-built 120 years ago for local farm workers, The Fur & Feathers has to this day obligations in the upkeep of the church roof. In the bar, a trio of ales are rotated, and menus of modern British cooking of local sourced ingredients are perused. Typical dishes are the fish platter – smoked mackerel pâtè, smoked salmon, bubbly-battered prawns, large shell-on prawn and sweet chilli dipping sauce; Herriard-shot pheasant casserole, mini pheasant leg pie, creamy mash and vegetables; and twice baked Lyburn’s Old Winchester cheese and chive soufflé. A large garden hosts entertainment, and is home to chickens laying eggs for the pub’s kitchen.
