The Dolphin Inn

16th-century coaching inn close to South Downs National Park

At a glance

Bar menu
Beer festival
Open all year
Kids play area
Wheelchair access

Like most of the village, this old coaching inn with magnificent chimneys once belonged to the Hursley Estate, which is now owned by IBM. It was built between 1540 and 1560, reputedly using timbers from a Tudor warship called HMS Dolphin (today’s less glamorous ‘ship’ is a shore establishment in Gosport). In the beamed bars you’ll find Ringwood Razorback and Fuller's London Pride plus Thatchers and Orchard Thieves ciders. In addition to sandwiches, baguettes and jacket potatoes, favourites include sausage and mash; mushroom and cashew nut stroganoff; and beer battered cod and chips.
