Close to the church in Rotherwick – a picturesque village that has appeared in TV’s Midsomer Murders – parts of this smart, cream-washed inn can be traced back to the 17th century. With log fires in winter, board games, exposed brickwork and red-and-black tiled or wooden floors, the interior is pleasingly traditional. The south-facing garden with views of fields is a draw in the summer as a place for a relaxed pint of Badger Fursty Ferret or a sensibly priced meal; in summer wood-fired pizzas are available. Look out for visiting Morris dancers throughout the summer, and visits by vintage tractors and classic cars.
