Belonging to the Peach Pubs group, which pursues the tenet of ‘small is beautiful’, The Chequers welcomes all-comers from breakfast onwards. Quality is the focus for all aspects of the operation, from ales such as Hogs Back to a carte packed with seasonal goodies. The deli boards are generous: choose either the butcher’s board, the veggie board, the cheese board or the fish board. Brasserie-type dishes range from Devon crab and artichoke gratin with crusty bread as a starter to Cornish lamb cutlets and broad bean houmous, parmentier potatoes and tomato and mint salsa; or Hampshire honey-glazed ham hock and sauerkraut with beer gravy for a main course.
