This Tudor-look, 200-year-old pub marks the village edge, from where cornfields and copses ripple across the gently rolling Hampshire countryside. At the start of World War II, locals are rumoured to have drunk beer out of the FA Cup, which was despatched here for safe-keeping by the then-holders, Portsmouth. Today's drinkers lack such silverware, but still have great local beers to sample. The inspiring, multiple menus include generous dairy-free and gluten-free selections for bar or restaurant consumption. Main menu options include starters like seared baby squid with pea and ham arancini; or warm smoked duck with black pudding and green beans. Follow with pie of the day; slow-roasted lamb shank; or vegetarian lasagne, with coconut rice pudding with spiced apple relish to finish.
